THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE — FAYETTEVILLE | FORT BRAGG | SANDHILLS REGION VOLUME 8 — ISSUE 2 14 SANDHILLS than any other club in the country (the US Open is coming to the resort in 2024- make reservations now!). The magnificent grounds and remarkable buildings of the resort prove enticing to meeting and wedding planners looking for the best spot for their clients. Golf courses can be found outside the Pinehurst region as well. A relative newcomer, the Tobacco Road Golf Club in Sanford, has been named one of the best golf courses in America by Golf Course Architecture magazine. If golf isn't your cup of tea, tennis is also very popular in the Sandhills, as are croquet, lawn bowling, and strolling among the many winding, scenic trails— activities that appeal to the many retirees in the area who just might use the slower-paced sports as an excuse to chat about the newest restaurant in town. Although the Sandhills are landlocked, there is no shortage of lakes and rivers. The lifeguards at the recreational Lake of the Pines in Fayetteville make sure summer fun stays safe, and Lake Pinehurst has an enticing beach area. Is it cheating if you "catch" your fish at the McKinney Lakes Fish Hatchery in Richmond County? Don't fret, there are plenty of other fishing holes like Waldo's Beach in the Hope Mills/Cumberland County area, the Nicholson Creek Game Land in Hoke County, and Blewett Falls Reservoir in Richmond County. Other nature parks include Lillington's Raven Rock State Park where following the path of the Cape Fear River will take hikers to Lanier Falls, the Fish Trap Rapids and the massive Raven Rock. Uwharrie National Forest, located primarily in Montgomery County, is a federally designated national forest and a key location for training of the Army's Special Forces. Birdwatchers – don't leave your binoculars behind – there are rare falcon sightings in the park. The Lumber River State Park is so large is spans four counties of the Sandhills. Nature lovers will love the untamed wild of the park, but don't be surprised to see alligators and snakes and bears – oh my! It would be remiss not to mention that many of these parks highlight the plight and continued recovery of the longleaf pine. This majestic pine is visible for miles and miles in the Sandhills, but cover only a fraction of their original acreage. Longleaf pine forests cannot survive without fire which represents their death and rebirth, much like the phoenix rising from the ashes. Fire suppression due to development and agriculture have reduced their numbers, but efforts in the Sandhills Affordable Custom Closets and Garages is North Carolina locally owned & operated with over 17 years experience, and trained under a nationally known custom closet company based out of California for many years.
