THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE—TRIAD NC | VOLUME 16—ISSUE 2 18 TRIAD LIVING Now, the High Point Market draws more than 75,000 buyers, interior designers, architects, and others to the furniture capital every six months. High Point is so renowned for furniture that the High Point Visitors Bureau hands out a furniture shopping directory to visitors. Find everything your home décor heart desires, from hand- knotted Oriental and Persian rugs (Zaki Oriental Rugs) to decorative hardware and plumbing products (Beeson Decorative Hardware and Plumbing) to antique light fixtures (Butler Lighting) to upholstery and drapery fabrics (Leisure Fabrics). While furniture remains an incredible contributor to High Point's economy, the nearly 112,000-person city has grown in other ways. The second largest employer, for example, is Ralph Lauren Corporation, which completed construction on its office and distribution facility in 2015 and, today, provides manufacturing jobs to more than 2,800 locals. Other large employers include High Point Regional UNC Health Care, Thomas Built Buses/Daimler Trucks, Bank of America, and Guilford County Schools. Nearly 70 global companies are also headquartered in High Point, earning it the title of "North Carolina's International City." Big businesses aren't the only entities impacting High Point's economic development. In 2015, the High Point Chamber of Commerce merged with a private economic development group called High Point Partners to create Business High Point — an effort to transform the city into "the single-most livable, safe, and prosperous community in America." Since its founding, the group helped organize 1,200 local volunteers to clean up neighborhoods and streets, secured funding to create a high- quality public gathering space near the library, and encouraged the founding of new small businesses throughout the city.
