THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE—TRIAD NC | VOLUME 16—ISSUE 2 88 HEALTH & WELLNESS Health & Wellness The Triad is known for its excellent hospitals, top quality clinics, health professionals, and medical research facilities. Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, flag- ship of Wake Forest Baptist Health-WFBH, is the best nationally recognized academic medical center in the Triad. Located in Winston-Salem, the Center is part of an integrated health network including educational and research facilities, other hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centers, and primary and specialty care facilities. The other leading segments of the system include Wake For- est School of Medicine, Wake Forest Innovations, and Wake Forest Innovation Quarter. WFBH's network also encompasses Brenner Children's Hospital and the Com- prehensive Cancer Center. Wake Forest Baptist operates three urgent care centers, five emergency departments, and more than 232 primary and specialty clinics. On their own and collectively, WFBH members are award winners. Recently Seven Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center specialties earned top-50 rankings from U.S. News & World Report in its 2018-19 "Best Hospi- tals" survey. This marks the 26th consecutive year that programs have made the rankings. Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's Comprehensive Cancer Center was designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a comprehensive cancer center. The Center is one of just three NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in North Carolina and one of 46 in the country. High Point Regional Health officially became part of the Wake Forest Baptist Health family on September 1 of this year and has a new name, Wake Forest Baptist Health – High Point Medical Center (HPMC). The new name reflects the reach of HPMC's existing health care services and popularity with patients beyond the region. With 351 licensed beds and more than 2,600 employees (includ- ing more than 130 physicians), High Point Medical Center serves more than 300,000 patients each year, in 41 loca- tions across four counties. "Our community hospital has had a rich history of providing exceptional health services to the people of this region," said Jeff Horney, chair of the High Point Medical Center board of trustees. "With our alignment with Wake Forest Baptist, we are positioned to be even stronger than ever with the ability to provide a broader range of patient care services and programs." But WFBH is not the only formidable health and well- ness entity in the Triad. Novant is an integrated system of physician practices, hospitals, outpatient centers, and more. Leading Novant in the Triad is Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center (NHFMC) — a Winston-Salem hospital providing emergency services, medical services, surgical services, rehabilitation, and behavioral health services. At NHFMC, their priority is to provide the highest-quality care to patients and their families. Accredited by The Joint Com- mission and a member of the American Hospital Associa- tion (together with Novant Health Medical Park Hospital), they perform close to 40,000 surgical procedures each year, including more than 6,500 general surgery procedures, 7,000 orthopedic and neurological procedures, and 700 open-heart surgeries. Novant also has an extensive listing of classes, programs, and seminars – all aimed at keeping you healthy. NHFMC includes Novant Health Rehabilitation, Maya Angelou Women's Health & Wellness Center, Heart & Vascular Institute, Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center, Stroke & Neurosciences Center, Orthopedic Center, and Behavioral Health. NHFMC's emergency room is one of the largest in the state and staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians. The health system has recently had an increased focus on adding specialty care to Guilford County with the Novant Health Triad Endocrine Clinic. The new clinic is on New Garden Road in Greensboro. Another prominent system in the region is Cone Health. One of the area's largest and most comprehensive health networks; Cone Health has more than 100 locations, in- cluding six hospitals, three ambulatory care centers, three outpatient surgery centers, three urgent care centers, a retirement community, >> BY STUART JAMES accessible, advanced, specialized healthcare
