THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE — CHARLOTTE | VOLUME 2 — ISSUE 2 82 HEALTH & WELLNESS "We are honored to, once again, be nationally rec- ognized as the best hospital in Charlotte," Carolinas Medical Center chief medical officer Gary Little, MD, said. "In a growing community, our world-class team of more than 1,100 providers is dedicated to provid- ing the best clinical programs to our patients, and this (honor) is a reflection of their commitment and skill." In Yelp's Best 10 Hospitals near Uptown, Charlotte, CMC was ranked #1, while CMC-Mercy was #3 and Levine Children's Hospital #4. Carolinas Medical Cen- ter was also prominent in Business North Carolina's Best Hospitals of 2018 at #3. Carolinas HealthCare System (Atrium Health) Pineville also broke the Top Ten at #7. Carolinas Health System (Atrium Health) Northeast (in Concord) rounded out the system's Busi- ness NC rankings at #11. Novant Health is another 'heavy hitter' in the medical scene of Charlotte-Mecklenburg. No mat- ter where you relocate in the region, Novant Health is close by, offering medical centers, physician clin- ics, imaging centers, surgery centers, rehabilitation centers, sleep centers, and other facilities so you can find what you need, where and when you need it. The Novant Health Charlotte (NHC) market offers a wide variety of classes, seminars, support groups, maternity tours, and community events at their hospitals and other locations. The flagship is Novant Health Presby- terian Medical Center (NHPMC), a nonprofit, 622-bed medical center. For over a century, they have provided the residents of this region with nationally-recognized, quality care. NHPMC is designated a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Magnet designation is the nation's highest honor for excellence in nursing, and only 5 percent of hospitals in the coun- try have achieved this honor. With 7,000 employees and over 700 physicians on medical staff, NHPMC is one of the largest medical centers in the region and is recognized throughout the state and across the country for quality care, outstanding patient satisfaction, and commitment to giving back to the community. Novant Health was named 2018 CHIME Health- Care's Most Wired recipient for the second year in a row for its adoption and strategic application of technology to achieve significant outcomes. Health- Care's Most Wired traditionally tracked the adop- tion of healthcare IT in hospitals and health systems. The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) took over the Most Wired pro- gram this year. Their goal is to identify best practices and promote the strategic use of healthcare IT to elevate the health and care of communities around the world. "It's an honor to be recognized by the health- care community for our adoption, implementation, and use of information technology in the delivery of care to our patients," said Lety Nettles, senior vice president and chief information officer, Novant Health. "Novant Health is committed to using leading-edge technology to connect with our patients, and we are excited about the opportunity to continue transforming healthcare and improving the health of our communities through technology." According to US News and World Report Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center is rated high perform- ing in 1 adult specialty and 4 procedures and conditions. NHPMC was Regionally Ranked Hospital #11 in North Carolina and recognized #2 in the Charlotte metro area. Although Charlotte doesn't have a VA hospital, the new (April 2016) $104 million, five-story Charlotte VA Health Care Center just off Tyvola Road, is one of the largest VA health centers in the country. The center offers outpatient services such as radiology, kidney dialysis, a pharmacy, and clinics for primary care, dentistry, optometry, audiology, dermatology, and mental health. Outpatient surgery will be offered in the near future. One final element of the region's healthcare scene: while Charlotte has a somewhat conservative medical culture, private practitioners now offer acupuncture, homeopathy, naturopathy, and other therapies using herbal medicines and energy balancing techniques. Even some of the main- stream hospitals also offer some of these therapies! []
