The School of Nursing gained national accreditation, and it added an RN to BSN nursing degree to its traditional and accelerated BSN degree programs. Anderson's graphic design program is nationally recognized and has won multiple national ADDY awards twice in the past fve years, the only university in the nation to do so. A $1.5 million upgrade to its science facilities has been completed with the largest addition being a state-of-the-art biochemistry lab. More changes are on the way as construction has started on a $15.4 million, 86,000-square-foot student center and dining commons that should transform student life on the campus. Construction is set to start this fall on AU's athletic campus of a new softball stadium, a tennis center and a recreational swimming pool. Anderson also launched The Great Commission Center to help students and faculty enhance mission opportunities in the U.S. and throughout the world. The Chronicle of Higher Education listed AU as the 18th fastest growing private university in the nation. Not too far from Anderson is Clemson University, which resides in both Anderson and Pickens Counties. As a top-20 public university, Clemson provides hands-on opportunities in the lab, the arts and the feld. With over 20,000 students, Clemson is well known for its impressive sports program, but it also has quite a reputation for its Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research. This center allows the university to partner with BMW and other automotive frms to research and develop new technologies for automotive manufacturing. According to the U.S. News and World Report, Clemson is considered number 20 among all public universities in this country and according to Kiplinger, Clemson has been named one of the nation's top 100 best investments.
