THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE — TRIANGLE NC | VOLUmE 16 — IssUE 1 42 chapel hill or a trendy, upscale saloon (West End Wine Bar), you'll fnd it in the Hill. For those looking for a more traditional music venue, UNC's Memorial Hall and Music Department present classical performances year-round. Each Friday in late spring, the sound of strumming banjos drifts through the town thanks to The Carolina Inn's "Fridays on the Front Porch." This end-of-the-work-week celebration features food trucks, lawn chairs, and lots of bluegrass. The Plaza at 140 West Franklin Street also hosts Friday evening get- togethers in the form of live music, dance and interactive arts. Although Chapel Hill appears to be in a state of constant motion, it can certainly slow down for those who prefer life that way. Tall, age- old pine trees surround the city and create a serenity often found in small Southern towns. In fact, in 2010, the town council adopted a Tree Protection Ordinance to protect trees on residential properties. Small parks with walking trails sit beside wooded neighborhoods, giving locals the feeling of a countryside with the convenience of a city. Within a fve- to 20-minute drive, residents can fnd themselves at an array of nature-flled hiking destinations. The Carolina North Forest encompasses 750 acres of woodlands and 20 miles of biking trails on UNC's North Campus, located just of one of the main roads in Chapel Hill. The 7,000 acres that make up Duke Forest spread throughout both Durham and Chapel Hill, and are open to the public for walking, hiking, running, biking, horseback riding and fshing. A handful of other nature experiences are just around the corner including Eno River State Park, Johnson Mill Nature Preserve, Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area, Lower Haw River Natural Area and Little River Regional Park, to name a few. You must see Chapel Hill — truly a "Southern Part of Heaven."
