THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE—JOHNSTON/SOUTHERN WAKE COUNTIES NC | VOLUmE 15—ISSUE 1 20 clayton Mannings is the only roof top restaurant in Johnston County. The 2016 "Main Street Champion" is a local favorite Jones Café where hot dogs, burgers and fries are a treat for all ages. The three-generation business has been serving them up since 1958. "In the morning – the gaggle of "old Clayton" guys gather for their morning cofee and gossip and the afternoons are always packed with families and business people of all walks of life," said Stacy Beard, Town of Clayton, public information ofcer. Outsiders are sometimes surprised to discover that the town is a burgeoning biopharmaceutical hub for the nation and the world. Pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk has plans to make one of the largest investments in recent state history in Clayton with a $1.85 billion manufacturing plant. This 269-acre development east of the existing Novo Nordisk facility will employ nearly 700 additional employees when it begins operations in 2020, with an average wage of $68,000. Other professional jobs could spin of of the Novo expansion. With the potential of 3,500 new residents moving into developments approved within roughly a mile of downtown, signifcant change is on the way. Town initiatives are underway to improve downtown neighborhoods, beautify Main Street, renovate historic buildings and increase downtown parking. A block- by-block streetscape improvement project will explore investing in benches, planters, trees, lighting, and parking. Horne Square is under "reorganization" to allow more room for stages, beach chairs, vendors and food trucks. A federal grant for a $2.2 million greenway expansion will entice locals to get outside. The expansion will extend the popular Sam's Branch greenway and bring trail users from all over the Triangle into downtown. The family-friendly town loves to gather for outdoor festivals – Clayton is host to the annual Harvest & Music Festival, with 20,000 packing Main Street for vendors and performances, including the popular Clayton Idol contest that crowned Scotty McCreery one year before he went on to American Idol fame. The Clayton "Shindig" event attracts fans from states away. This funky, bluegrass based musical festival put on by the local Rotary club combines beer, bands and barbecue (with a side of corn hole). The fun all-day "get your groove on" sessions boast 10 diferent bands, including past headliner, Grammy award winner, The Steel Drivers. In the summer, the Clayton Downtown Development Association is set to launch its newest series of free summer concerts on the square – featuring country, beach, rock n' roll and a Stevie Wonder tribute band. The Triangle town is proving itself to be a town "that could and did." Residents agree with Hipolito who said, "Clayton's just got that vibe and that amazing sense of community. Clayton just keeps getting better and better every day." [] Broker Cooperation Welcome. ©2016 KB Home (KBH).
