You can fnd a play, concert, special event or just walk through a park and smell the fowers in this family oriented town. Here are some ways to relax and renew in Garner. The Garner Performing Arts Center (724 W. Garner Road; 919-661-4602), located in the historic old Garner High School building, is home to the award-win- ning Broadway Voices series as well as the "It's Show- time!" performance series. GPAC is also home to the much-acclaimed Towne Players of Garner, a community theater group that produces shows year round and ofers a popular youth theater camp in the summer. The GPAC lawn is home to great outdoor annual events such as Downtown Sounds (live music and food trucks) in June and Carnaval Latino in September. White Deer Park (2400 Aversboro Road; 919-661- 6982) boasts 96 acres of passive parkland with a net- work of paved and unpaved trails connecting the park to neighboring Lake Benson Park and neighborhoods and schools in South Garner. The park has two playgrounds as well as picnic shelters for rental. Its LEED Gold-certi- fed Nature Center ofers educational programming and activities for citizens of all ages. Lake Benson Park (921 Bufaloe Road) has picnic shelters, playgrounds and walking trails. It is home to the town's annual Independence Day celebration and to the Garner Veterans Memorial, an inspiring and educa- tional structure made possible by a citizen-led initiative. Take advantage of free fshing from the dock. DON'T MISS ANNUAL EVENTS • If you're in town on July 3, don't miss the Indepen- dence Day celebration at Lake Benson Park. Fireworks and a free concert by the North Carolina Symphony are attended by more than 15,000. • Other special annual events include a Groundhog Day celebration at White Deer Park, the Spring Eggstrava- ganza egg hunt at Lake Benson Park, Trick-or-Treat the Trails at White Deer Park and the Trick-or-Eat food truck rodeo the Sunday before Halloween on historic Main Street. • In early December, Garner's downtown is transformed into a holiday wonderland during the annual Light Up Main festival (featuring the annual tree lighting ceremo- ny) and the Garner Christmas Parade.
