THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE—JOHNSTON/SOUTHERN WAKE COUNTIES NC | VOLUmE 15—ISSUE 1 38 childcare For many working parents, Primrose has been a lifesaver in providing childcare and developmental assistance. One mother shared, "We moved to North Carolina 3 years ago and our daughter started at the Primrose at West Lake in the two year old classroom. This year she moved to the Primrose Holly Grove School, also owned by Rhonda and Elliott Blades. She just graduated Pre-k and will attend the Primrose Private Kindergarten in September. What your child receives as a Primrose friend is beyond just education, they learn about nurturing, friendships, music and art appreciation, kindness and so much more!" When local hometown care is needed, the Johnston Health Early Learning Center is an option for all families in Smithfeld and the surrounding area. Since Johnston Health is a major employer in the area, the Learning Center serves as an added work beneft for employees. The Early Learning Center is a fve-star childcare facility providing a supportive environment for children six weeks to fve years of age. The program includes a year-round, literacy-based curriculum to teach children based on age-appropriate, developmental practices that include a foreign language and computer play. The Center maintains a low teacher-to-child ratio, which is essential for quality daily interactions. The ratios are lower than mandatory North Carolina State requirements, and each instructor has Early Childhood credentials. Playgrounds and the center's entrance are gated for security, and each classroom has a camera that parents can access online. The playgrounds are divided into age appropriate sections with paths for riding tricycles and wagons, as well as shaded play areas. Johnston County Schools focuses on early skill development, believing that every child can learn when a school respects each learner's individuality. In the elementary schools, children learn by hands- on observation, and a literature-based reading and comprehensive writing program. Johnston County provides a public school system that has become a model for other districts in North Carolina. The accountability standards for students and teachers have seen test scores rise well above the state average. The county has committed to building new facilities through the passage of recent bond referendums to accommodate the growing student population. The Parks and Recreation Departments in Smithfeld and Selma plan comprehensive, year-round programs of activities for over six local parks. The staf schedules athletics, arts and crafts, music, dance and outdoor and social recreation events for students and families. The Clayton Recreation Department is responsible for maintaining fve athletic felds for youth competitive sports THERMO DIRECT SERVES CUSTOMERS IN RALEIGH, GARNER & SURROUNDING AREA Providing whole house diagnostics for your residential home comfort needs.
