THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE — FAYETTEVILLE | FORT BRAGG | SANDHILLS REGION VOLUME 6 — ISSUE 2 46 MOORE COUNTY East Coast for years and was course host for both the 2014 Men's and Women's U.S. Open Championships. Over 40 world-class courses are now spread within a 15-mile radius. So whether you're looking to play a legendary pro course, enjoy the southern charm of golf in a quaint small-town setting, or just want to be part of the region's storied traditions, there's no other place in the world like the Home of American Golf. And the region never stops reaching for the stars. Pinehurst Resort & Country Club's famed Course No. 2 has been selected by the United States Golf Association (USGA) as the site of the 2024 U.S. Open Championship. When the pros gather in mid-June that year it will be the fourth time the USGA has chosen to bring the national championship to Pinehurst in just 25 years. But prior to the 2024 U.S. Open, Pinehurst will also host the 2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship and the 2019 U.S. Amateur Championship. The club also conducts the North & South Amateur Championship, as well as the Women's North & South Amateur Tourney. But golf in this southern county is also a family affair. As in several years past, the 2016 U.S. Kids Golf World Championship will be played at Pinehurst Resort and several other area golf courses. The U.S. Kids Golf World Championship is the largest and most prestigious event in the world for players 12 and under. The event is a 3-day tournament attracting 1,500 participants from almost every state and more than 51 countries around the world. Players, ages 6 to 12, qualify for the World Championship through World Championship Qualifiers, Local Tours, European and Regional Championships, and performance in previous World Championships. It's obvious Moore County is made up of towns and villages that have an extraordinary lifestyle to offer. Carthage serves as the Moore County seat. Pinehurst is now a New England-style golf town. Aberdeen, home to over 7,300 residents, offers an active downtown and commercial, industrial and railroad hub. Southern Pines, a bit larger community with nearly 13,000 residents, enjoys diverse local shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. Moore County's largest community – Pinehurst is (as mentioned) world-renowned as a destination for golfers and recreation. From young military and civilian families to entrepreneurs to individuals looking for the perfect place to retire, together, these towns and communities form an area that truly has something for everyone.
