THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE — UPSTATE SC | VOLUME 12 — ISSUE 2 44 What if I told you a community still existed where you could find an average of 230 days of sunshine each year; where you could fish year- round; where you could golf year-round; and where there was a high per capita income while at the same time a cost of living almost 12% below the national average? Would you wonder what fairy tale I was reading? Well it's not a fairy tale — it's 10 miles south of Greenville, South Carolina and the community is called Simpsonville. Located in the rolling hills of the Upstate, this neighborhood of around 19,000 (around 60,000 in the immediate region) is a growing inner- suburb surrounded both by international industry and natural lakes and parks, with friendly residents and businesses. Simpsonville was voted "One of the Ten Best Towns for Families" by Family Circle Magazine and "One of the 25 Best Affordable Cities" by Money Magazine. It's easy to see why, when you spend just a day there. First of all, the economics is a "no-brainer" with international employers in and around Simpsonville like BMW, Cryovac, Fluor, Kemet, Michelin North America, Milliken and Para-Chem offering well-paying SIMPSONVILLE Simpsonville BY LAUREL HYATT small town vibe, perfect location jobs within an easy commute to this charming southern town. But a great place to live and raise a family is more than just a good job and low cost of living; it's a town where healthcare is state-of-the-art. Hillcrest Memorial Hospital (HMH) – part of the Greenville Hospital System, SC's largest healthcare system – has been serving the people of Simpsonville and the surrounding foothills for nearly 50 years with patient-family-centered care. Specializing in short stay and outpatient surgical procedures, the facility offers the latest technology and a total of approximately 250 staff members. The experienced surgical team performs more than 2,000 surgeries per year and cares for around 90,000 patients. HMH has been named a Top Performing Hospital in the Premier Healthcare Alliance nation's QUEST collaborative. Simpsonville is also very fortunate to have the excellent reputation for dedicated emergency responders in the form of fire and rescue and police should emergency situations arise. Relocating also means finding that perfect dwelling place. Again, Simpsonville delivers. Choose from a wide selection of apartments, townhouses, charming older neighborhood houses, or new subdivisions. The Simpsonville schools are part of the Greenville County School District and students of all ages are availed whatever they need to succeed. Seven nearby colleges and universities provide excellent and easy access to higher education including Greenville Technical College that maintains the Brashier Campus on West Georgia Road in Simpsonville. There's great shopping in Simpsonville including the only IMAX theatre between Charlotte and Atlanta. If you should desire more variety, remember Greenville is only a 10 mile commute north. Religion plays a major role in most small, southern communities as it does in Simpsonville. Here you'll find nearly fifty places of worship spanning all denominations and most religions. With active community groups and facilities like the GHS Family YMCA located on Brookwood Point Place in Simpsonville plus new exciting venues like Heritage Park with the Charter Spectrum Amphitheatre, young and old alike can take advantage of those 230 days of sunshine (and the cloudy days too) engaging in fun, healthy and stimulating activities. The GHS YMCA in Simpsonville is an 83,000 square foot facility and home to group exercise classes such as Zumba, offers free weights and resistance training equipment, an indoor track, two regulation basketball courts, the Cardio Theater, a 25-meter outdoor pool, and after all
