American Underground THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE — TRIANGLE NC | VOLUME 17 — ISSUE 1 34 DURHAM A short drive to the edge of town reveals the Reuse District with restaurants and a food hall in the works. The up-and-coming district in the historic Lakewood neighborhood, currently anchored by the Scrap Exchange, will be a creative reuse arts center. The Durham Food Hall will be a major tenant along with The Lakewood Restaurant (baker Phoebe Lawless's first). Ninth Street, close to Duke University's East campus, is a full- on college street where nondescript facades, ethnic restaurants, quirky and colorful shops, and bars co-exist. Cosmic Cantina connects to the street promoting itself as the "Best Mexican on the Planet." The Ninth Street District is in middle of a neighborhood originally built for Erwin Cotton Mills. Special events and festivals are a part of the city's fabric all year. The annual Bull City Food & Beer Experience (March 12) at the Durham Performing Arts Center brings together food and beverage aficionados. In April (20-23), TASTE, in its fourth year, assembles together the best chefs, artisans, brew masters, and artists for a signature experience. The Art of Cool Festival will bring jazz and hip hop artists to Durham for a weekend-long music festival (April 28-30). Moogfest returns May 18 through 21. The music- tech-art festival attracts fans and techies from all over the world. A drive or walk through Duke University is time well spent in warmer months when nature is at its peak. Not only to see the visually stunning Gothic architecture that characterizes the university and famed Duke Chapel, but to experience the scenic Sarah P. Duke Garden. Also worth the time is the Nasher Museum of Art (located on campus). The Duke name is attached to numerous city entities including the groundbreaking Duke University Hospital where the first North Carolina hand transplant was performed in 2016, to the Duke Pond which is the university's own water system. Duke University is named "The Number One Best Southern School" by Fortune Magazine. [] Buy Early for Best Seats GROUPS OF 12 OR MORE: MAY 5-7 MAY 12-14 AUG 1-6
