Then look no further than the Triangle Region of North Carolina. Within a 15-mile radius lie three of the nation's top research universities: Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University. Nearly one-half of adults in the Triangle hold a college degree or higher. The region also is home to a large number of high- tech, healthcare, phar- maceutical, and biotech industries, with nearly 200 of the world's top research organizations just minutes from one another. Com- prehensive research and development is conducted at all three universities, federal laboratories, and contract research organizations. This extensive R&D is not just related to new drugs and therapies, but also through improvements in medical devices, testing, and the information technology that connects it all.
