THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE — CHARLOTTE | VOLUME 1 — ISSUE 1 18 DAVIDSON Located 20 miles north of Charlotte, the Town of Davidson is a small college town with engaged and active citizens who care deeply about their commu- nity. We have a mayor, board of commissioners, manager, and staff, all dedicated to providing residents with a high quality of life. We appreciate Davidson's great "sense of community." We are home to Davidson College, with a certified arbore- tum and remarkable students who contribute to the life of the town. We are a pedestrian and bicycle-friendly town with a vibrant business district, historic downtown, and a calendar full of community events. We have a very successful farmer's market and a grow- ing "foodie" scene offering over 32 dining establishments with all types of food and beverage. We are known for our signature events: Art on the Green, the Gallery Crawl, Town Day, Concerts on the Green, and Christmas in Da- vidson which draws about 30,000 people to our down- town area over three nights in early December. We believe in sustainable open space, racial and eco- nomic diversity, environmental stewardship and promot- ing the health and wellness of our citizens. We welcome residents and visitors alike. Davidson BY THE TOWN OF DAVIDSON • Davidson, NC just made the list of the coolest suburbs in America on Thrillist.com for its good food/drink scene, with enough places to go close to home to not always have to trudge back into the city; not so far away from the city that the commute is awful; and its a place with a history or its own unique elements that separate it from just planned suburban sprawl. Based on those rankings, Davidson was chosen as the coolest suburb in the Charlotte region, and one of the coolest in America. In their description of Davidson, the website notes: "Never mind the fact that this town looks like it is the set- ting of one of Nicholas Sparks' novels I totally haven't read, and never mind the fact that the best basketball player in the world went to the beautiful college where you can bring your kids to watch basketball and tell them about him; never mind that it sits on a beautiful lake and has a Down- town that will make you weep with aesthetic joy, or that it is only 20 miles from Charlotte; just get the skillet burger at Kindred (it has infinity accolades nationally) during lunch, and you will understand. I actually might just move there by the time you finish reading this. —Source: Thrillist.com and CharlotteStories.com
