THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE — CHARLOTTE | VOLUME 1 — ISSUE 1 52 HEALTH & WELLNESS patient's journey to health and wellness every step of the way. Novant Health has been awarded the pres- tigious Ernest A. Codman Award by The Joint Com- mission (JCAHO), the President's Award by VHA (now Vizient, Inc.), the Team Approaches in Quality Improvement Award from the Society of Hospital Medicine and the President's Award from Professional Research Consultants. Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center was recognized two years in a row as one of only two U.S. hospitals among all of the VHA's (Vizient, Inc.) Joint Commission reporting organiza- tions to earn Superior System Performance honors. The hospital achieved high-level performance for Medicare and Medicaid Services, quality measure categories: acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care improvement. No matter where you are, in the Charlotte area, Novant Health is close by. They offer medical centers, physician clinics, imaging centers, surgery centers, re- habilitation centers, sleep centers and other locations across the region so you can find what you need, where you need it. Remember, the Novant Health Charlotte market offers a wide variety of classes, seminars, sup- port groups, maternity tours and community events at their hospitals and other facilities. Of course Nov- ant Health Charlotte is far from finishing its amaz- ing expansion and state-of-the-art facilities. Just this April the first federally funded pediatric Hemophilia Treatment Center arrived in Charlotte, meaning that all children with bleeding disorders will have a new specialty medical home for treatment, education and supportive services. The St. Jude Affiliate Clinic HTC (Novant) provides access to specialty trained physi- cians, nurses, physical therapists and social workers who have extensive training in taking care of children with these rare complex disorders. CaroMont Regional Medical Center is a gen- eral medical and surgical hospital in nearby Gastonia, North Carolina and took the #3 spot in the U.S. News and World Report 'Best of' list. Established in 1946 (then known as Gaston Memorial Hospital), CaroMont Regional Medical Center (CRMC) provides impressive specialties and services coordinated by some of the most experienced and dedicated medical staff in the region. CRMC is a 435-bed, not-for-profit general and acute care facility and the anchor of CaroMont Health, a health care system with five affiliate companies including a network of 46 primary and specialty physician offices. Two more Carolinas Healthcare System medical cen- ters and another Novant hospital all tied for U.S. News's 4th spot on the 'Best of' 2016-17 Charlotte Hospitals (Metro). They included Carolinas Healthcare System Northeast, a general medical and surgical hospital (455 beds) in Concord, NC, Carolinas Health- Care System-Pineville (an acute long-term care hospital with 40 beds) serving southern Mecklenburg, York and Lancaster counties, and Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center (a general medical and surgical hospital in Huntersville with 78 beds). Making the Best of 2016-17 Charlotte (Metro) List but not landing at a specific numerical rank were other Caro- linas Healthcare System (CHS) hospitals. If you plan to move to the part of the region nearer to Wadesboro (south- east), CHS-Anson is a general medical and surgical hospi- tal with 15 beds. CHS-Anson has an emergency department and a primary care physician office together in what they call a medical home. If your home is farther west toward downtown Charlotte, Carolinas Medical Center-Union in Monroe is a general medical and surgical hospital with 224 beds. They provide comprehensive emergency services and specialty medical care with a variety of medical servic- es, including a day surgery center, cancer treatment center, long-term care facility, behavioral health center, specialty care clinics, a community wellness and outreach program, a women and children's center, interventional heart pro- gram and physician practices. Carolinas Rehabilitation is a CHS rehabilitation hospital located on Blythe Boule- vard in Charlotte and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Novant Health also continued to impress by adding to the 2016-17 Best of Charlotte List by U.S. News. Novant Health Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital is the area's only orthopedic hospital and provides a full range of or- thopedic services including advanced diagnostic imaging, innovative treatments and rehabilitation services. It ranks among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the country for surgical care measures and has earned the Gold Seal of Ap- proval™ from The Joint Commission for five of their joint and spine programs. If you should decide to buy a home closer to Matthews, Novant Health Matthews Medical Center provides families a wide-range of health services including maternity, surgery, cardiovascular and cancer care with private patient rooms, an emergency department, inpatient and outpatient surgery, radiology, laboratories, a diagnostic treatment and support service area, an intensive care unit for critically-ill patients, and a special emphasis on maternity care. The main thing to remember is that Charlotte is a grow- ing healthcare center and home to both national and in- ternational leaders in the healthcare and life sciences field. With the flagship institutions of two nationally ranked hospital systems in Carolinas HealthCare Systems and Novant Health, a growing healthcare technology scene and a world class research institution (North Carolina Research Campus), Charlotte's healthcare and life sciences sector is poised to grow exponentially.
