THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE — TRIANGLE NC | VOLUME 17 — ISSUE 2 104 WOMEN'S HEALTH You're pregnant! This news can come with excitement, joy, surprise, shock, anxiety… and many other emotions. There are numerous questions to answer and decisions to be made. Is this craving normal? Which stroller should I buy? Epidural or medicine-free birth? How do I optimize health for baby and me? One innovative way to get excellent prenatal care and make new Mom-to-be friends at the same time is CenteringPregnancy TM , also known as "Centering." Centering is a group-based pregnancy care model focused on educating and empowering couples during their pregnancy, labor and delivery, and parenting jour- ney. Centering found a special place in my heart during my midwifery training at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and at Fort Belvoir Community Hos- pital in Virginia, and I am excited now to be offering this care back in the Triangle Area. What are the benefits of Centering? Centering was developed to provide a better preg- nancy care experience, and those who participate report high levels of patient satisfaction with their care. The benefits of Centering include: • 10x more time spent with providers (no waiting room time!) • shared knowledge through group Q&A • support and friendships with other moms-to-be • reduced risk of preterm delivery and postpartum depression • strong breastfeeding education and support How does Centering work at Reply? Every Centering visit is led by a Reply physician or certified nurse midwife, along with a registered nurse. New groups start about each month for patients with similar due dates. Additionally: • meetings last two hours; 10 meetings in total • sessions include individual prenatal checks • schedules are known in advance (time-off request letters are available for employers) • schedule includes a postpartum reunion CenteringPregnancy TM : Innovative Prenatal Care BY TALLY KRIENKE MS, CNM, WHNP-BC CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIFE If you're interested in learning more about this innova- tive, empowering, and fun option for prenatal care, please contact me at 919-230-2100.
