13 THE ORIGINAL RELOCATION GUIDE — CAPE FEAR NC | VOLUME 14—ISSUE 1 CAPE FEAR LIVING 125,000 residents, the variety of homes and neighborhoods is beyond compare. Landfall stands out as a gated community where townhouses and multi-million dollar homes sit on beautifully- manicured gardens, with some backing up to a golf course designed by Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus. (Fans of the now-defunct television show 'Revenge' may recognize the grand house used in filming.) Residents of Landfall and surrounding neighborhoods have a hard time choosing from the variety of restaurants in Wilmington. Casey's Buffet is a local hole in the wall where you don't mind the popcorn ceilings because the popcorn shrimp is so darn good. Another bedrock of Wilmington dining is Hieronymus Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar offering oh-so-many ways to prepare the fresh catch of the day. Steak is the center attraction at Port City Chop House. There's no shortage of international choices, either. Try Osteria Cicchetti or Roko's for Italian cuisine or Indochine Restaurant for its exquisite Thai and Vietnamese fare with its tranquil garden seating. Flaming Amy's is the place for Mexican fare, and Crepes and More makes your taste buds say ooh-la-la! As with other cities its size, Wilmington has no shortage of shopping centers. But shopping and housing options will be taken up a notch with the recent approval of a 23-acre mixed-used development planned in central Wilmington just inland of Wrightsville Beach. Further north is the Porters Neck community of Wilmington. Home to a new shopping center anchored by Lowe's and Walmart, the area features a large golf course community that recently hosted the PGA Tour's Wells Fargo Championship. Next stop is Pender County. It's not seeing the explosive growth of Brunswick County, but Hampstead (hugging the coast), Burgaw, Rocky Point and Castle Hayne (all further inland) are enjoying the benefits of being bedroom communities of the greater Wilmington area. Hampstead offers lower home prices and a strong sense of community, while those seeking a more pastoral existence will be content in the upcountry towns. Further north is Sneads Ferry, a good choice for many working at nearby Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. We're back on the water for the rest of our Cape Fear regions excursion. Pender County beaches—Surf City, Topsail Beach and North Topsail Beach— are a mix of single-family homes, both large and small, and large condominium communities like St. Regis at North Topsail. Our final destination takes us to Swansboro, the northernmost destination in our tour. This waterfront community, known as the Friendly City by the Sea, >> 7205 Wrightsville Ave, Suite 110 Wilmington, NC 28403 NMLS ID: 191679; NC - I-170825 • NMLS ID #2611 (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System • NC - Lic #L-109803 Applicant subject to credit and underwriting approval.
